Project Overview

Project Overview

Charity Fit is a concept developed from the idea of combining a passion for fitness with a commitment to social good. This personal project, not affiliated with any organization and not aimed for actual deployment, presents an idea: a mobile app that converts regular fitness routines into support for charitable causes. Users participate in activities like walking, running, cycling, or yoga, and their efforts help generate sponsor donations to charities of their choice, seamlessly linking their health objectives with meaningful community support.

Problem Identification

Problem Identification

The problem that "Charity Fit" addresses is two-fold: first, it recognizes the challenge many individuals face in finding time and resources to contribute to charitable causes, despite their strong desire to do so. Second, it identifies a lack of motivation or incentive for people to consistently engage in fitness activities. "Charity Fit" aims to provide a solution that seamlessly integrates the act of giving with daily exercise routines, thereby fostering a more consistent commitment to both personal health and social responsibility.

Goals

Goals

  1. Enhance User Engagement in Charitable Activities: To create a platform that makes it easy and accessible for users to contribute to charitable causes through their everyday fitness activities, thereby increasing overall participation in philanthropy.

  2. Promote Regular Physical Activity: To encourage users to adopt and maintain a healthier lifestyle by providing an additional encouragement – supporting charity – for engaging in regular exercise such as walking, running, yoga, and other fitness activities.

  3. Innovate Fundraising for Charities: To provide a new and sustainable fundraising channel for charities, where they can benefit from small, regular contributions generated through the daily fitness activities of a broad range of users.

Research and Discovery

Research and Discovery

Competitive Analysis:

To get started with my research and discovery phase, I reviewed existing fitness and charity apps to identify market gaps and opportunities.

Disclaimer: This is a hypothetical project and the comparison is part of a UX/UI case study for personal educational development.

User Pain Points:

Based on the insights from the competitive audit, the following user pain points were identified to understand further the challenges faced by potential users.

1

Awareness Gap

Many potential users are unaware of how fitness activities can support charities, reducing engagement.

2

Motivation Decline

Sustaining long-term user motivation for combining fitness with charity can be challenging.

3

Complex Interface

A non-intuitive app interface can deter users from engaging effectively.

4

Limited Choices

A narrow range of activities and charities might not meet the needs of diverse user interests.

Design Process

Design Process

User Flow:

Following the identified pain points, I mapped out potential paths a user might take within the app to ensure smooth navigation. The user flow diagram below visually represents the user's journey, from sign-up to activity logging.

User Persona:

Guided by the insights gathered during my research, I created the persona of Mia Anderson to guide the design process in a more user-focused direction.

User Journey Map:

To address the user pain points identified earlier, I developed a user journey map. This map illustrates Mia's step-by-step experience with the app, detailing her actions and emotions from initiating an activity to completing it.

Wireframes:

Following the development of user flows, I created wireframes and a low-fidelity prototype to outline the app's structure and navigation. Throughout the initial design phase, I continually refined the screen designs based on user feedback, guiding the transition from wireframes to more detailed mockups.

User Testing:

Testing the early versions of the app with users brought valuable suggestions, helping me make important improvements in the design. My user testing findings were:

1

Navigation Issues

Some users struggled to find the workout activity selection. Suggestion: Make this feature more prominent in the UI.

2

Donation Process Clarity

A few users were unclear about how activities translate into donations. Suggestion: Add a brief explanatory tutorial.

3

Profile Customization

Users desired more options in their profiles, like setting personal fitness goals. Suggestion: Expand profile customization features.

4

App Flexibility

User highlighted a need for the ability to pause and later resume activities, and to delay starting workouts immediately after completing the onboarding process. Suggestion: Implement clear and accessible CTA buttons for starting, pausing, and resuming activities.

High-Fidelity Prototype:

Presented below are the high-fidelity mockups of Charity Fit app, showcasing a polished, user-friendly interface designed to enhance the user experience and engage users in fitness-driven charitable activities.

For the "selecting a workout" screen, I enhanced visibility and accessibility of the workout activity selection, directly addressing navigation challenges highlighted during user testing.

For the "charity selection" screen, I incorporated a pop-up to clarify what each charity stands for and added "how it works" screen that explains the app's functionality.

The "profile" screen showcases a user's engagement by displaying their total funds raised, number of workout sessions, and a detailed summary of recent activities, offering a comprehensive view of their fitness and philanthropic journey.

The "home" screen addresses user feedback by featuring an ongoing activity status and a "Go to Activity" CTA, providing users with the flexibility to easily start, pause, or resume their workouts as needed.

Outcome ✔️

Outcome ✔️

CharityFit, a concept project blending fitness with charity, demonstrates how mobile apps can convert routine workouts into tools for social good. While not designed for real-world application, this prototype showcases the possibility of aligning personal health objectives with charitable contributions. Moving forward, I aim to further refine the design, incorporating user feedback to improve its functionality and overall user experience.
